Birmingham Denture - Fixed Prosthodontic Tooth Replacement

Choices: The Decision Process

Dentures or Fixed Bridges
Decision Making
Today's advancements in removable prosthetics, cone beam catscans, mini implant dentistry and the newer hybrid implants (sized between mini and standard implant devices) offer the "educated" patient a wide range of tooth replacement choices that weren't available just a few years ago.

Jawbone Health

One of the most critical issues for a new denture patient to consider is the concept of bone loss associated with wearing dentures.

New denture wearers who have a good quantity of healthy bone in both the upper and lower jaws can expect to have good function and fit with normal dentures. Disease or oral health issues that have decreased the amount of bone may cause stability problems however, for some patients.

Matching Bone to Implant

Should I get Implants?

Imtec and Intralock mini dental implants have created special minimally invasive implant devices that can make a denture function almost like a fixed bridge, but is still removable. Ultra thin 1.8 mm implants require no extensive surgery and can be mounted with a new or retrofitted denture all in the same day.

In situations where jawbone integrity is insufficient for a mini implant, Dr. Sanderson can use a larger implant hybrid that still provides the Snap on Denture effect that many denture wearers now want.

Implants - No Bone Grafts Required

Many patients prefer avoiding bone graft surgery for several different reasons: Convenience factor, requirements for healing, aversion to surgery, oral health conditions, age and financial concerns.

Dr. Sanderson's access to the most renowned technologies including Nobel Biocare and Intralock enable our patients to have several options.... not just one or two... for teeth replacement.

Snap On Dentures: A Favorite

Mini implant supported dentures are a popular choice for most denture wearers, regardless of age.

Although there may be bone density issues for patients who have been using standard dentures for a long time, Dr. Sanderson can, in certain circumstances, create the needed environment via grafting surgery or computer guided technologies to place implants where they are needed the most.

Mini to Standard Implant Upgrade

Mini implants are the perfect choice for securing dentures and preserving bone. In terms of basic economics, the mini implant procedure has a lower treatment cost, which apppeals to everyone.

The slender diameter of a mini implant, however, does not possess the same bone regenerating potentials of a larger, more standard implant. For this reason, patients who are in keen need of preserving or regenerating more healthy bone (young or middle aged patients) can easily opt for one of Dr. Sanderson's "implant hybrids" (larger than a mini, smaller than a standard) that can be adapted or replaced later with a standard implant.

Customized Longevity

More and more dental patients are becoming aware of how implant dentistry can replace elements of oral health that only Mother Nature could provide. Denture wearers enjoy the convenience and feel of natural functioning teeth with implant supported prosthetics and, with proper planning can create an environment where upgrades to different dentures or fixed bridge solutions are within easier reach.

Young Adult Dentures

Many patients, still in their 20's are faced with the prospect of being a denture wearer. Genetically inherited disease, predisposition to developmental defects, medication effects from childhood, inaccessible dental treatment and other reasons cause many young adults to become denture patients.

Today's implant dentistry technologies offer young adults the ability to have teeth replacements that are easily affordable and create a path to creating, quite literally, a path toward having the teeth that Mother Nature never provided.
